La Metairie d'Auge can be reached:
By road- 240 miles from the ferry ports of Caen and St Malo.
By rail- via Paris to Chatellerault
By air -from Manchester, Liverpool or Stanstead to Poitiers,
Tours or Limoges (car hire available at these airports).
La Métairie d'Auge is a 20 minute
walk from Vicq-sur-Gartempe- a small quiet village in the
Vienne close to the borders of the departments of the Touraine
and Indre.
The village has a post office, general store, bakers and
two friendly bars.
A 30 minute walk in the other direction will bring you to the village of Angles-sur-l'Anglin. With its own ruined chateau and situated either side of a crossing on river Anglin the picturesque village is holder of an award for one of the prettiest villages in France. The village is famous for its cottage industry - producing Jours d'Angles lace and for the magnificent carvings found in nearby prehistoric caves. Angles has 2 cafés (serving food), 3 restaurants, a tabac, pharmacy and small charcuterie.
The beautiful spa town of La Roche Posay
is 8km away. The town is an important centre for the treatment
of skin conditions for which the spa water is said to be
an effective cure. The town has many shops and a supermarket
as well as weekly markets- one food and one general. The
town also has a beautiful 18 hole golf course which is open
to non-members.
Chatellerault is the nearest large town
(30km) . The town has excellent shops and several supermarkets
as well as a large weekly market.
The historical city of Poitiers
is a 45 minute drive away. The ancient city is situated
on a hill and is excellent for shopping and sight seeing.
